Consecutive interpreting in Berlin
In consecutive interpreting, the original speaker and the nearby interpreter speak in turns. The speaker pauses regularly, giving the interpreter the chance to verbally translate the source-language speech for the foreign business partners or listeners.
Due to this time delay, a meeting lasts around twice as long as a monolingual one.
Consecutive interpreters are suited to bilingual and generally smaller events, for example:
• Dinner and welcoming speeches
• Celebratory speeches
• Presentations
• Guided tours
• Doctor-patient consultations
• Bilateral negotiations
The advantages of consecutive interpreting mainly lie in the cost and space savings because it does away with the equipment required for simultaneous interpreting and one interpreter is usually sufficient.
